Congrats to TheSkimm on Getting Acquired
Ziff Davis' Everyday Health Group acquired TheSkimm, Axious announced yesterday.
Axios ran an exclusive story in the late afternoon yesterday that TheSkimm got acquired by Ziff Davis’ Everyday Health Group. Per the article, TheSkimm will remain a standalone brand and TheSkimm co-CEOs Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin will stay on.
Two specific things that stood out to me in the announcement:
There are no plans to reduce TheSkimm staff - which is more than 75 full-time employees. To me, that’s impressive - to both have that many employees and have them all moving over with the acquisition.
I only associate TheSkimm with the Daily Skimm - I didn’t realize that they publish more newsletters, including Skimm Money and Skimm Parenting. Cool.
I also checked LinkedIn to see what the two co-founders were saying about the acquisition: Zakin’s post is here and Weisberg’s is here. I like the video in Zakin’s post.
For me, TheSkimm was a big part of an important era of my life, the mid-2010’s when I was running around working in NYC Media. I also did a partnership with TheSkimm via my blog Smart, Pretty & Awkward in 2014, where I drove subscribers to them via social media and blog posts.
I later went through several interviews for a job with them in 2015 - I just looked up the email chain about it, and it looks like as part of the interview process I did a 35 slide Powerpoint on partnership ideas for them. I actually thought the Powerpoint wasn’t half bad, even looking at it with my 2025 eyes. But since I created the deck after a few interviews, I can’t tell if it contains any internal info so I won’t share it.
But please do enjoy the last slide I created, below - I do remember making my then-boyfriend, now-husband take that picture. I think you are supposed to see TheSkimm on my phone but I didn’t angle it right. Maybe this is why I did not get the job (ha).
For me, the line of Daily Candy to TheSkimm to me starting Beck on Tech is very clear. I am grateful to newsletter pioneers.
Congrats to TheSkimm on getting acquired!

PS. I also used to love the birthday shout-outs on the bottom of the DailySkimm. One of the first conversations I ever had with my now sister-in-law when my husband and I were dating was how she wanted a Skimm shout-out on her birthday!
