Scrolling on your social media accounts is like owning a beautiful bookstore that you get to fill with your favorite “books”… not like owning a landfill full of things that make you feel like trash.
Step One: Stock the Bookstore
Right now, think of one thing that makes you happy. Is it looking at graphic art, reading homeschooling tips, peeking inside NYC apartments, learning Notion shortcuts, peeking at photos of other people’s cats or dogs or lizards?
Now go to your social media platform of choice and search for that item. The latest one I did was about rainbow bagels - the more specific, the better.
Then like/heart 10 posts that come up after your search for the topic.
Repeat a couple of times over a week - and boom, the algorithm will kick in, realize you like that type of content, and start feeding you more of baby goats or French architecture or international theme parks. This will fill your bookstore with more “books” you like.
Step Two: Declutter the Bookstore
The second step to owning a beautiful bookstore is to take out the trash. Any time you see a post - it only takes one! - that makes you feel bad, quickly mute, block or hide the account that posted it. I block accounts if they are strangers and hide them if I know them in real life. You can always unblock or unhide - but you don’t need to have books in your bookstore that make you feel bad. For me, I block anything about plane crashes or losing the baby weight - that is not the vibe of my bookstore.
First fill with great books, then get rid of the trash… and your social media feeds will feel like this:
